Frequently Asked Questions

What are your fees?

Please see the Fee section of our website for more information about fees.

Can we do telehealth?

Absolutely! Whether you're in the CBD, a distant suburb, or simply prefer the comfort of your own home, our secure video conferencing platform allows you to access professional psychological care. These virtual psychologist appointments maintain the same high standards of confidentiality and effectiveness as in-person sessions. Online therapy in NSW is a great option for those with busy schedules, limited mobility, or living in areas with fewer local mental health services. When you book your appointment, please send us an email to confirm the appointment is via telehealth. We utilise Zoom for all telehealth sessions and we will send you a link prior to the appointment.

What is a clinical psychologist?

A Clinical Psychologist is a highly trained mental health professional specialising in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioural disorders. Unlike some other mental health practitioners, Clinical Psychologists hold advanced degrees (typically a Master's or Doctorate) and undergo extensive supervised training. They utilise evidence-based therapies to help individuals of all ages manage a wide range of challenges, from anxiety and depression to trauma and relationship issues. If you're seeking expert psychological support for your mental well-being, a Clinical Psychologist provides comprehensive and compassionate care.

What conditions do you treat?

We provide evidence-based therapy in Sydney for common concerns such as anxiety disorders (including generalised anxiety, panic attacks, and social anxiety), depression, and stress management. Our expertise extends to more complex issues like OCD treatment, grief and loss, and relationship challenges. If you're struggling with your mental well-being, our compassionate approach is designed to help you regain control and improve your quality of life. You can find some more information about me in the About section

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist in Sydney?

You do not always need a referral to see a Clinical Psychologist in Sydney. You can book an appointment directly with us. However, to access a Medicare rebate for your sessions, you will need a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP or psychiatrist. This plan allows you to claim a significant portion of your session fees back from Medicare. We recommend discussing your eligibility for a Medicare rebate for psychology in Sydney. Please see our guide on How to book an appointment with a psychologist for more information

What should I expect in my first appointment?

Going into your first therapy appointment can feel scary! The first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know each other in a safe, confidential space. We'll discuss your reasons for seeking support, your current concerns, and your personal goals for therapy. This initial consultation also allows us to gather relevant background information to understand your unique situation comprehensively. You'll have the chance to ask any questions you have about the therapeutic process, confidentiality, and what evidence-based psychology entails. Our aim is to ensure you feel comfortable, understood, and confident about the next steps in your mental health journey.

Is everything I discuss with my psychologist confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of being a clinical psychology practice. What you discuss with your psychologist is strictly confidential, adhering to the ethical guidelines and legal requirements of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and relevant privacy laws. There are very limited circumstances where confidentiality may be broken (e.g., if there is an immediate and serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law), which will be fully explained during your first session and made available in our consent forms. Your trust and privacy are paramount in creating a safe space for your therapy.

How long is a therapy appointment and how many sessions will I need?

Our appointments run to a ‘clinical hour’ of 50 minutes. Some individuals find significant relief and progress within a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term support. The precise amount of sessions is a difficult number to guess due to a large amount of variables.
